On Highway 89, nine miles south of Tahoe City, you will find Sugar Pine Point State Park. In addition to picnicking, hiking, and camping, Sugar Pine Point boasts the colossal Ehrman Mansion, formerly the vacation residence of a wealthy San Francisco family. On the grounds is the original log cabin of old Indian fighter General Phipps. There is also a nature trail which passes several information markers describing the history of Tahoe and its inhabitants. State Park fee: per car; bikers or hikers, per person.
